Privacy policy
StudyTools is a trading name operated by Aaleyah Julius as a sole proprietor in South Africa. Aaleyah Julius is the data controller for the personal information described here. This policy explains what we do with your information, and it is written in plain language rather than legal boilerplate.

Tools that need no account
The calculators, study timer, exam countdown, flashcards, typing test, PDF tools and writing tools run entirely in your browser. The text and files you use in them are not uploaded to us. Preferences such as your saved grades, exam dates, typing history and favourites are stored in your browser's local storage on your own device, and clearing your browser data removes them.
Accounts
If you create an account we store your email address, your sign-in method and your plan. If you sign in with Google, we receive your email address and basic profile information from Google — not your Google password.
The AI study suite
- Text is extracted from your uploaded file in your browser, and the extracted text is stored against your account so you can reuse the document.
- That text is sent to our AI provider to generate the notes, flashcards, tests, quizzes, guides or answers you requested. It is not used to train models by us.
- Generated results, quiz scores, study session records and chat history are stored against your account so your dashboard, library and history work.
- We record a count of AI generations per month to enforce plan limits.
Premium payments
If you subscribe to Premium, the payment is processed by Paddle.com, which acts as the Merchant of Record for the sale. Paddle collects the billing details and location data needed to take payment, calculate tax and issue your invoice — we never see or store your card number. We receive from Paddle only your subscription status, billing period and a customer reference, which we store against your account to unlock Premium features.
Who we share data with
- Hosting and database providers — to run the site and store your account data.
- Our AI provider — to generate the study material you request from your text.
- Paddle.com, our Merchant of Record — for the sale of Premium, subscription management, payments, tax compliance and invoicing.
- Authorities or professional advisers — only where we are required to by law.
We keep your account data for as long as your account exists, and delete or anonymise it when it is no longer needed. We protect it with encryption in transit and access controls.
Legal basis for processing your data
- Performance of a contract — creating and running your account, generating the study material you ask for, storing your library and history, and providing Premium under these terms.
- Legitimate interests — keeping the service secure, preventing fraud and abuse of AI limits, and improving how the tools work.
- Legal obligation — keeping records we are required to keep, and responding to lawful requests. Tax and invoicing records for Premium are held by Paddle as Merchant of Record.
- Consent — anything optional, such as marketing email, which you can withdraw at any time.
Your choices and rights
- Delete individual documents and saved items from your library and history.
- Delete your account and everything attached to it from your dashboard, or ask us via the contact page.
- Request access to, correction of, or a copy of your personal data, object to or ask us to restrict processing, or withdraw consent. Contact us and we will respond within one month.
- Use the free tools without an account at all.
Cookies and local storage
We use storage that is necessary to run the site: keeping you signed in, remembering your theme, and saving tool preferences on your device. See the cookie policy for details. If advertising is introduced in future, this policy and the cookie policy will be updated before it goes live.
Children
StudyTools is intended for students in secondary and higher education. If you are under the age at which you can consent to online services in your country, ask a parent or guardian before creating an account.
Changes
If this policy changes materially we will update this page. Questions? Email studytoolsupport@gmail.com or use the contact page.
