What this typing test does
This free typing test measures your typing speed in words per minute (WPM), your accuracy, and exactly how many characters you typed correctly and incorrectly. The random passages are loaded fresh each attempt, so you cannot memorise your way to a higher score.
How to use it
- Choose a test length: 15, 30, 60 or 120 seconds, or set a custom duration.
- Pick a category so the vocabulary matches what you actually type.
- Click the passage and start typing — the timer starts on your first keystroke.
- Correct characters turn green, mistakes turn red, and the highlighted character shows where you are.
- When the timer ends, review your results and try again to beat your personal best.
Example
If you type 250 correct characters in 60 seconds, that is 250 ÷ 5 = 50 words in one minute, so 50 WPM. If you typed 260 characters in total, your accuracy is 250 ÷ 260 = 96%.
How to improve your typing speed
- Use touch typing from the home row and stop looking at the keyboard.
- Practise 10 minutes a day rather than one long session per week.
- Slow down until accuracy is consistently above 97%, then let speed rise.
- Practise the vocabulary you actually use — academic, medical or technical passages.
