Typing practice tips that actually help
- Slow down until accuracy sits above 97% — speed built on errors does not last.
- Keep your fingers on the home row and let your eyes stay on the text, not the keys.
- Practise little and often: five focused minutes a day beats an hour once a week.
- Use the category that matches your course, so you drill the words you really type.
- Retest weekly rather than daily so improvement is visible above day-to-day noise.
What is a good typing speed?
Around 40 words per minute is average for an adult typist, 60 to 70 is comfortably fast, and above 80 is quick. For coursework, accuracy matters more than raw speed — a 45 WPM typist who rarely backspaces finishes an essay faster than a 65 WPM typist correcting every second word.
Practise by subject
Pick the vocabulary you type most. Each category loads a fresh passage in that subject area.
